ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - A controversial traffic experiment on Williamson Road is dividing Roanoke businesses—some say it’s saving lives, others say it’s causing major delays.

It’s been over two weeks since Roanoke began a six-month lane reconfiguration demonstration on Williamson Road. The city has reconfigured the travel lanes on Williamson, stretching from Pocahontas Avenue to Angell Avenue, resulting in the road having just one northbound and one southbound lane, with a center turn lane.

Businesses on Williamson are split on whether or not they think the change has been a good thing, but several businesses that spoke to WDBJ7 said they do feel like it’s made the road safer.
