MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin residents are urged to seek help before a statewide heating law goes into effect.

The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSC) is encouraging electric and gas utility customers who have unpaid bills to make a payment plan or apply for financial aid before the annual disconnection moratorium starts.

Wisconsin law prohibits utility companies from shutting off home heating from Nov. 1 to April 15 for unpaid bills.

However, residents without utility service are urged to reconnect now, because it will not start automatically.

PSC provided a list of the largest utility companies in Wisconsin that residents can reach out to for help. Company Phone number Alliant Energy 1-800-255-4268 Madison Gas & Electric 1-800-245-1125 Superior Water, Light & Power
