HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) - Connecticut’s Jewish community is celebrating the release of 20 Israeli hostages after two years of hoping for their safe return to their families.
The release brings both relief and sorrow, as 33 hostages were killed during their captivity.
At the Crown Market in West Hartford, owner Debbie Raviv described the community’s emotions as the hostages finally returned home.
“I think that’s a huge understatement. I think there is huge relief,” Raviv said. However, she acknowledged the sadness that accompanies the celebration. “I feel really terrible for the families whose loved ones are not coming back.”
Tracy Fox, who has family in Israel, spoke with her daughter this morning about the atmosphere there. “She told me for the first time, people were crying tears of joy.
