(CNN)– A multi-billion-dollar deal is bringing together two tech companies to develop and deploy custom artificial intelligence microchips and computing systems.

Open Ai and Broadcom plan to deploy 10 gigawatts of Ai chips over the next four years starting in the second half of next year.

10 gigawatts is enough electricity to power a large city.

Accelerators and systems will be designed by Open Ai while Broadcom handles development and deployment.

This marks the first time Open Ai has produced its own artificial intelligence chips to run its Ai models.
