URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) -- Each year in the United States, one in eight women is diagnosed with breast cancer. It's why WCIA, and many other organizations, are "going pink" to spread awareness in October. Some researchers on the University of Illinois campus are part of the movement, researching ways to improve outcomes for cancer patients.
Michael Oelze and Mingrui Liu are two individuals working on projects to identify breast cancer in a new way. One method involves an ultrasound screening tool to see how patients are responding to therapy.
Right now, Oelze knows current methods can take months to detect whether or not someone is responding to cancer treatments.
