LORAIN COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) - State and local prison officials are stepping up efforts to confiscate smuggled narcotics, especially drug-soaked paper.

They say this type of contraband has been posing one of the largest threats to the safety of both inmates and staff.

19 Investigates recently showed you how the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office has begun cracking down on this drug, which is also referred to as “Tune”.

Statewide, similar efforts have stopped millions of dollars’ worth of drugs and other contraband.

Tune is paper soaked with bug spray, or other toxic household chemicals, which inmates then smoke to get high.

According to Ohio’s Department of Rehabilitation and Correction ( ODRC ) it remains one of the biggest security threats throughout the state’s jails and prisons.
