BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - The University of Vermont celebrated Native American culture and cuisine on this Indigenous Peoples Day, helping to connect students to the community through food.
In a busy student center at lunch time, who wouldn’t love some free food?
“Free food is always a great way to start the day,” said Louie Nielsen, a UVM senior.
“I love food. I’ve always loved food,” said Aaron Solomon, a senior. “And what’s better than free food?”
Chef Brian Yazzie of the Navajo tribe in Minnesota came to UVM to teach students about his culture and traditions, and to share Indigenous-inspired creations, like bison meatballs and corn mush, a polenta-style dish made with locally grown corn.
