A major winter storm swept through central and northern Manitoba on Monday, bringing heavy snow, high winds, and widespread power outages that have shut down major highways and left thousands without electricity.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued a winter storm warning early today, forecasting between 10 and 30 centimetres of snow for much of the region. The agency said the heaviest accumulation would fall along a line from Flin Flon through Thompson, where snowfall could exceed 30 centimetres before tapering off late Monday or early Tuesday.
