Infrastructure upgrades are on the way after a major water main break on Huntingdon Avenue in Waterbury.
The leak began in the late afternoon hours on Sept. 24 when the air relief valve blew off one of the city’s largest and oldest high-pressure mains.

This sent water more than 40 feet into the air, and flooded the surrounding area .
A full replacement and other upgrades will be done after the Thomaston Avenue main is back online to avoid additional loss, city officials said.
The size and age of the main made it hard to repair as it dates back 80 to 130 years.
