Route 12 in Ledyard is closed in both directions after a pole and wires came down onto the road, officials said.

It happened at the intersection of Long Cove Road on Monday evening.

Police say a pole and wires are down with vehicles stuck in the middle of the scene.

They say Eversource and the state’s Department of Transportation have been notified.

Drivers are being asked to avoid the area, as cleanup is expected to take awhile.
