The Phoenix Police Department is looking to hire retired law enforcement officers from Arizona to work as school resource officers, the department announced in a news release.

The department is looking for candidates who enjoy working with children and have a passion for creating a safe school environment.

The mission of SROs is to maintain safety and security for students, faculty and staff on school campuses. SROs also are meant to serve as visible deterrents to threats, respond to emergencies and build positive relationships within the school community.
