ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Leaders in Atlanta’s Jewish and Palestinian communities are viewing the recent ceasefire in the Middle East with a healthy dose of skeptical optimism.

The deal silenced guns in the region this week and saw the return of Israeli and Palestinian hostages and prisoners after two years behind enemy lines.

“Hopeful, but anxious,” said Rabbi Joshua Heller with Temple B’Nai Torah in Sandy Springs. “Because we thought we were close before, but things have broken down.”

Heller has had a chair reserved symbolically in the front row of his congregation for the two years Israeli hostages were in Hamas captivity. He plans to take it down on Tuesday after the homecoming of the final Israeli hostage.
