POTOMAC, Md. — A person has died after falling while hiking the Billy Goat Trail on Monday afternoon.

According to Montgomery County Fire Spokesperson Pete Piringer, first responders were alerted to an injured person along the trail in Potomac shortly before 12:30 p.m.

The injured hiker reportedly fell onto rocks while on Billy Goat Trail A. Montgomery County Fire Rescue used water boats to help the person while other emergency crews hiked the land trail.

The hiker died from their injuries and has not been identified.

US Park Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the hiker falling.
