CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - A proposed amphitheater, public water access, and community event spaces were part of Morehead City’s vision for Calico Bay Park , which was planned for development in November 2024.
However, these plans hit a dead end with the U.S. Army.
“It kind of sucks that they decided not to do it because it’s kind of just there, and it’s big. It’s a bit of an eyesore,” Morehead City resident Megan Boyd said.
The 24-acre space is the Army Reserve Center that’s over 60 years old and hasn’t been used since 2019.
The town aimed to obtain and revitalize the long-vacant property, but a letter from the U.S. Army stopped those plans.
