What began as a competitive New Jersey school board race has spiraled into controversy after the release of text messages that allegedly show a candidate making threatening and sexual comments about a sitting board member.
The messages — which are now at the center of a police investigation in Marlboro Township — allegedly show candidate Scott Semaya sent vulgar texts about school board member Danielle Bellomo in a group chat with other participants.
Bellomo, a Marlboro Township Board of Education member and mother of three, said she was “absolutely terrified” after learning about the messages and believes she was being targeted because of her conservative political views.
