LA PLATA COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) - Neighborhoods near a southwest Colorado town are still evacuated due to flooding caused by heavy rain.
Flooding caused heavy rain over the weekend that washed out roads and caused mud and rockslides in La Plata County. Crews said 290 evacuations were conducted and 11 rescues were completed.
Community leaders held a meeting on Monday night to discuss the storm’s impacts as well as the course of action moving forward.
Upper Pine River Fire Protection District Chief Bruce Evans said Vallecito Creek had maxed out at 7,200 cubic feet -- almost twice as high as its previous max at around 3,000.
