OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - In less than three weeks, Ottumwa city leaders hope a new 10,000 square foot skate park will be filled with skaters of all ages.

Riverside Cyclery Owner Josh Gettings said he’s seen the growth in the skating community over the last 25 years and he’s glad to see something new for skaters around.

“When I was a kid, we kind of had to ride around and find spots to ride. This is like purpose built and it will be that place that people can go to ride,” said Gettings.

Gettings said helping with a project like the skate park is about more than just fulfilling a passion.

“To be a part of making something like this happen for the next generation of kids, and this park will last probably way longer than the 25 years the old park lasted,” said Gettings.
