BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - In October, food pantries and non-profits are facing the pressure of cold weather, new Big Beautiful Bill SNAP cuts and the government shutdown.

Dream Center Bismarck, a nonprofit providing food and essentials to families in need, is no stranger to the cold-weather rush, but is experiencing higher numbers earlier this year.

“It’s just easier to walk in here and get a meal than to go over to social services and try to apply for some card that you may or may not get,” said Robert Ereth, a food pantry client.

The pantry saw an estimated 15% increase compared to last year and expects November to be tougher.
