As the federal government shutdown reaches Day 13, people in the North Texas housing industry are beginning to see ripple effects and are preparing for delays tied to key federal agencies.
Linda Davidson, president of National Branch Optimization-Operations for Fairway Mortgage, said lenders are watching several pressure points at once. “There are several factors we’re looking at. One is flood insurance,” she said.
New and renewing flood coverage through FEMA’s National Flood Insurance Program is delayed, which can stall closings for homes in flood zones.
“If a property requires flood insurance, you can’t get coverage through NFIP right now, and buyers are having to seek private flood insurance instead, which is often more costly,” Davidson said.
