Jesper Wallstedt made his first start in goal of the season, and he was perfect in the shootout to help the Minnesota Wild (2-1-0) defeat the Los Angeles Kings 4-3 in extra time Monday night in St. Paul.

The Wild scored all three of its regulation goals in the first period, and all of them came on the power play as the Kings were called for four penalties, including three in the span of three minutes and four seconds.

Jared Spurgeon gave the Wild a 1-0 lead with 11 seconds left on Minnesota's second power play of the period. Then the Kings were called for a puck over the class at the 15:00 mark of the period, followed by a hooking penalty 18 seconds later.
