Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Kapur has been placed on leave following the alleged suicide of IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, who died on October 7. This decision comes amid rising pressure on the state government after Kumar's family accused several senior officers, including Kapur, of harassment and discrimination. In a note left behind, Kumar detailed accusations of "blatant caste-based discrimination, targeted mental harassment, public humiliation and atrocities" against eight senior officers, including Kapur and Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarniya, who has already been transferred.

Kumar's wife, IAS officer Amneet P Kumar, has demanded that Kapur and Bijarniya be named in the FIR for allegedly contributing to her husband's suicide. The family has refused to allow a post-mortem or cremation until their demands are met. Following the registration of the FIR, a special investigation team has been formed to look into the case.

Political leaders from various parties have visited the Kumar family to express their condolences. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to meet them soon. Union Minister Ramdas Athawale stated that Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has assured that action will be taken against those found guilty.

In response to the situation, the Haryana government has issued a directive to maintain communal harmony and law and order across the state. Officials have been instructed to monitor the situation closely and report any developments that could disrupt peace. The government is under scrutiny as opposition parties demand accountability and justice for the deceased officer's family. A 31-member committee has also given a 48-hour ultimatum for action against the accused officers.
