GREENWOOD, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The South Carolina Attorney General’s Office issued a response after the city of Greenwood asked for their opinion on hate crime ordinances.

South Carolina is one of only two states without a hate crime law, but many cities and counties have passed their own ordinances.

The Attorney General’s Office told Greenwood officials that it believes a local hate crime ordinance would likely be struck down by a court because the General Assembly has not enacted a statewide law.

The Attorney General’s full opinion can be read here .
