A rare health update has emerged for Formula One legend Michael Schumacher as a journalist described the "positive sign" that has developed this year.

Schumacher, 56, has not been seen in public since suffering a traumatic brain injury following a skiing accident in 2013.

The legendary Ferrari driver spent six months in a coma followed by rehabilitation before being transferred into private care at the Schumacher family home on Lake Geneva .

Earlier this year, Schumacher signed his initials on a crash helmet for Jackie Stewart's Race Against Dementia charity, with the help of his wife Corinna who nurses her husband along with assistance from medical staff at their Lake Geneva home.
