LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Nearly 200 community members gathered at the Goodwill Center in Louisville on Monday to voice concerns about one problem: violence.

Members of Metro Council say it’s time for a new approach.

Councilmembers Tammy Hawkins and Ken Herndon’s initiative to reduce violence relies on direct connections with concerned citizens. They’re hosting a series of meetings to unite voices in the community, identify where problems are and meet those needs as a group.

“I’m a firm believer that if you don’t reach out to the community, if you don’t listen to the people that live in those neighborhoods, you won’t come up with solutions that will reduce and slow down the things that are going on in these neighborhoods,” Hawkins said.
