CASS COUNTY, Iowa —

The former executive director of the Atlantic Area Chamber faces charges of fraud and theft.

Bailey Smith, who was placed on unpaid administrative leave on Aug. 29, was arrested by the Cass County Sheriff's Office for first-degree fraudulent practices, theft and other charges.

Court documents allege that between November 2022 and August of this year, Smith made approximately 47 bank transfers between multiple chamber of commerce bank accounts in an effort to cover up money she had stolen from the chamber's general account.

The total money transferred was estimated to be $76,000.
