CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Sometimes sports comes down to confidence.
Kirkwood sophomore setter Kaci Johnson says all she needed was someone to believe in her.
“I have learned that I am capable of a lot more than I was in high school,” said Johnson. “I’ve gained that confidence through my coaches.”
Head volleyball coach Dave Brown says she wants her players to have confidence and independence.
“I trusted Kaci from the minute that I saw her swinging from the middle at the (high school) state championship game,” said Brown.
Johnson leads Kirkwood in kills. She never even led her high school team in kills.
At North Scott, she was mainly a setter, tallying 273 kills in her varsity career. In just a year and a half at Kirkwood, she’s still a setter, but with 598 kills.
