MURRAY – At its regular monthly meeting last week, the Murray City Council heard the first readings of ordinances that would gradually raise water and sewer rates over a 10-year period to pay for needed infrastructure updates.
At its September meeting, the council voted to approve a recommendation from the Finance and Personnel Committee to draft ordinances addressing the water and sewer rates. Before Thursday’s first reading, City Administrator Jim Osborne noted that over a 10-year period, the water rate would be raised a little over $3, and the sewer rate would be raised a little over $6, adding up to a little over $9 in total utility rate increases over the next decade.
The current minimum water rate is $13.45 for the first 2,000 gallons under the proposed ordinance, and it would r
