A residential infill beside a Union Hill church is moving forward after a recent seven-figure property purchase, though the church building itself has gone back on the market.
The former Great Hope Baptist Church building at 2101 Venable St. sold last month for $2.15 million to a pair of LLCs tied to UrbanCore Construction and Keel Custom Homes, and to local developer Matt Jarreau.
The Sept. 10 deal included the adjacent half-acre parking lot at 2111-2119 Venable St. and a smaller parking lot at 810-812 N. 22nd St., across Burton Street from the church site.
The seller was Great Hope Baptist, which has been working with UrbanCore on a plan to convert the 20,000-square-foot church into 19 apartments.
