Keir Starmer has been mocked after a toe-curling exchange with Donald Trump at a Middle East peace summit.

The prime minister appeared to think he had been summoned to the lectern by the US president as he thanked world leaders for attending the event in Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt.

It was held to mark the historic peace deal agreed between Israel and Hamas.

As the other leaders looked on, Trump said: “Where’s United Kingdom?”

Starmer, who was standing on stage behind the president, awkwardly raised his arm before stepping forward to shake his hand.

Trump could be heard saying to the PM: “Is everything going good? Nice to have you here.”

The president then turned back to the lectern, leaving Starmer apparently unsure what to do next.
