Police across the UK are urging households to tighten up security this Halloween as darker evenings and busy streets create ideal conditions for opportunistic thieves.

Forces highlight that crime typically rises as the clocks go back, and are asking residents to make their homes look occupied, lock up, and be extra vigilant about vehicles and valuables.

West Midlands Police ’s “Darker Nights” campaign stresses that dark evenings give burglars cover and reminds residents to “try to make your house look as occupied as possible when you are not there.”
