LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ) - Starting on Tuesday, October 14, a portion of Fifth St. (between Taylor St. and Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Bridge) will be down to one-way traffic heading west (away from Downtown Lynchburg and toward Memorial Ave.), according to the city.

This closure is part of Fifth St. Utility & Streetscape Project, the fourth and final phase of the project that started in 2009. It’s expected to last for 15 months.

The eastbound lane closure (heading into Downtown Lynchburg), drivers will be detoured onto Langhorne Rd., left onto Park Ave. and back onto Fifth St. to get past the work area. The detour is expected to be there for the entirety of the project, including nights and weekends. The construction is expected to go until December 2026, said the city.
