A Bolton farmer has treated her herd of dairy cows to a live jazz band in the hope that the music will boost milk production.
Local six-piece combo, The Dixiebeats, performed to both the Jersey and Holstein cows at Smithills Open Farm last Sunday, October 12.
The group of musicians - who are all part of Eagley Jazz Club - were invited to play after owners had read that the divisive genre can increase milk production by up to four per cent and wanted to put the claim to the test.
Their 30-minute set consisted of fast and slower compositions which staff at the dairy farm said was 'moosic to their ears'.
Farmer Caitlyn Horrocks said: "The cows took a little warming up to but they seemed to really enjoy it. They all took turns coming to the front to see what was going on."
