BUTLER, Pa. —

A Butler County man who stole a pug from a woman he met on a dating app and then killed the animal has been sentenced to prison.

Joseph Hillard, 28, pleaded guilty to burglary, animal cruelty, and other offenses earlier this year. Advertisement

Authorities were called to Chyanne Callender's Butler County home for a burglary on Jan. 5, 2024. According to a report, Callender told officers nothing in her home had been taken, except her 10-year-old pug named Lexi.

"I did everything with her, like, absolutely everything," Lexi's owner Chyanne Callender told Pittsburgh's Action News 4 earlier this year. "She was everything, best friend."

Callender said she told police that the day prior to the break-in, she told Hillard that she no longer wanted to be friends with him.
