President Donald Trump hailed a "historic dawn in a new Middle East" on Monday, but experts say it remains to be seen if peace will endure.

Trump traveled to the region as a U.S.-mediated ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas hit a major milestone.

All 20 of the remaining, living hostages and the bodies of some of the deceased were returned to Israel, just over two years after they were captured by Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023. In exchange, Israel freed nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and detainees.

Trump received a red-carpet welcome when he touched down in Israel, where he met with hostage families and addressed parliament. He then attended a peace summit in Egypt and signed a deal intended to lay the groundwork for Gaza's future.
