Ipswich Town chief executive Mark Ashton has disputed Tom Wagner's belief that the best way for the EFL to thrive is by growing itself rather than relying on Premier League handouts.
The Birmingham City owner appeared to break ranks with the rest of the EFL earlier this month when he said 'top clubs in English football have to be protected at all costs'.
Wagner argued that the biggest clubs, which he numbered between six-eight, drive the value of the Premier League and therefore the amount of money coming into football.
He added the EFL should look to grow their own 'pie' rather than look for the Premier League to redistribute theirs.
However, Ashton, who is also Ipswich's chairman, believes the top flight does have a responsibility to the EFL.
