Gov. Janet Mills announced her 2026 run against U.S. Sen. Susan Collins on Tuesday, thrusting her into one of the biggest elections on the national map.
Before she can wage a heavyweight campaign against the five-term Republican senator, the 77-year-old governor has to navigate a Democratic primary field including progressive upstart Graham Platner. The race will be about the future of that party and whether Maine voters will continue to see differences between Collins and President Donald Trump.
Reactions and endorsements are coming in the wake of Mills’ launch. We will provide updates here all day.
