OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - On this day back in 1953, one of the smallest submarines ever built for the U.S. Navy officially launched.
The USS Marlin performed as a target and training ship for 15 years.
In that time, it was deployed to Guantanamo Bay, and served for target duty at a sonar school in the Florida Keys.
The sub was decommissioned in 1973.
The Marlin was brought back to Omaha’s Freedom Park the next year, and has made its home there ever since.
