Motorcycle deaths in B.C. have dropped to a five-year low, but a late-season spike in dangerous riding has police ramping up enforcement to prevent another deadly surge.

“July and August accounted for almost half (16) of motorcycle deaths this year,” says Corp. Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol in a release. “Speed is the single-biggest contributing factor, with impairment and distraction close behind. That’s why we’re renewing enforcement in the next month as the riding season draws to a close.”

McLaughlin added that while motorcycles are a fun way to travel, they also carry inherent risks that too many riders ignore.
