HANNIBAL, Mo. - The Hannibal Police Department is actively investigating a homicide that occurred in the 300 block of North 6th Street.

On Monday officers were dispatched to a residence to conduct a welfare check on a female subject who had not arrived for work. During the course of the investigation, officers discovered a 22 year old female deceased inside the residence.

A male resident, believed to be aware of law enforcement’s presence, sustained self-inflicted injuries. The male subject was in serious condition and was flown to an appropriate medical facility where he remains in police custody.

A release from the Hannibal Police Department states that this appears to be an isolated incident between two individuals known to each other and there is no ongoing threat to the community.
