A woman rescued from a fire in a multi-family home in New Bedford, Massachusetts, last week has died, fire officials announced Tuesday.

“Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones who are mourning today,” New Bedford Fire Chief Brian Medeiros said. “This is a terrible loss for them and our City.”

The woman's name is not being released, but she was in her 70s, officials said.

Fire officials said they received multiple 911 calls reporting a fire with people possibly trapped at 396-398 Elm Street just after 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 9. Crews were told enroute that that one third-floor tenant was at a window and needed help.
