PORTLAND, Maine —

Maine Gov. Janet Mills is now running for a seat in the U.S. Senate, according to an announcement on X, formerly Twitter, Tuesday morning.

"I've never backed down from a bully and I never will," Mills wrote. "Donald Trump is ripping away health care from millions, driving up costs, and giving corporate CEOs massive tax cuts. And Susan Collins is helping him. My life's work has prepared me for this fight—and I'm ready to win."

She joins eight other Democratic candidates in the race to unseat Republican Sen. Susan Collins.

Susan Collins has not yet formally filed for a reelection campaign, although in prior interviews, the senator told WMTW that she does plan on running again. Collins has held her Senate seat since 1997.
