Outdoor and sporting goods chain Orvis , which sells some products in Rhode Island, said it plans to permanently close more than 30 locations throughout the United States.

Simon Perkins, the company's president, told USA TODAY that the Vermont-headquartered retailer will shutter 31 stores and five outlets by early next year. He cited the country's "unprecedented tariff landscape," and said the company would also reduce the selection of products it sells.

Orvis will focus more on gear and outdoor products, but will not fully stop selling lifestyle apparel, the company said.
