BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Baton Rouge General has upgraded its operating room with new robotic technology designed to help men with enlarged prostates receive symptom relief with reduced risk compared to traditional surgical methods.
The hospital’s latest addition, called the Hydros system, uses waterjet technology combined with ultrasound guidance to precisely target prostate tissue during surgery. Dr. Wesley Porta, a urologist who recently completed the first surgeries using the new system, said the technology represents the future of prostate treatment.
“I think as it gets more integrated, it’s probably going to be sort of the direction of where all the newer technology is headed and how we tackle some of these problems,” Porta said.
