GRAND RAPIDS, MI - A white cane awareness walk is planned this week to support individuals living with low vision or blindness.
The walk is planned from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15, beginning at Calder Plaza, 300 Monroe Ave. NW. It’s designed to raise public awareness about the white cane as a tool of independence for those who are blind or have low vision.
The free event, hosted by the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ABVI) in collaboration with Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital, highlights more ways for people to navigate Grand Rapids.
The route will follow sidewalks from Ottawa Avenue to Monroe Center, continue along Monroe Avenue and Lyon Street, and return to Calder.
