BRIGHTON, N.Y. (WROC) - There are renewed concerns around the future of special education programming, following the recent round of layoffs in the federal education department.
News 8 spoke with leaders at the Mary Cariola Center to learn more about how they’re navigating the uncertainty. Late last week, the Trump administration began laying off hundreds of Education Department staffers. It follows widespread firings across the government, aimed at pressuring Democratic lawmakers over the federal shutdown.
Nearly every staffer in the federal special education division was targeted, which has created uncertainty of these programs nationwide.
