COLORADO SPRINGS Colo. (KPTV) - Former University of Portland star Erik Spoelstra was named head coach of the USA Basketball Men’s National Team on Tuesday, the organization announced.

He previously served as an assistant coach on Team USA under Steve Kerr during the 2024 Paris Olympics, in which the team won the gold medal for the 17th time.

“It’s an incredible honor to be named head coach of the USA Basketball Men’s National Team,” Spoelstra said of the appointment. “Representing our country and leading world-class athletes to marquee competitions is one of the greatest privileges in sport. I look forward to carrying on the tradition of excellence and teamwork that defines USA Basketball.”
