Victorian emergency call operators were left taking notes with pens and paper after a power outage knocked out the state's computer-aided triple-0 dispatch system last night.

It is understood the power outage affected the triple-0 call centre at Burwood and caused the dispatch software system to go down for several hours.

The software also failed at triple-0 call centres at Williams Landing and Ballarat, but those centres did not lose power.

A Triple Zero Victoria spokesperson said the centres were still able to take calls.

"Triple-0 calls from the community continued to be taken throughout a power issue that caused an unplanned outage of [the] computer-aided dispatch system (CAD) at 12:30am," the spokesperson said.
