Game 1 of the NLCS went down to the wire Monday night. The Milwaukee Brewers were one pitch away from tying it at 2-2. Bases loaded. Two outs in the ninth. Brice Turang faced Blake Treinen. The slider came close, and Turang leaned back. Reflex over strategy, and next pitch, he struck out. Los Angeles Dodgers win, 2-1.
While Turang did get roasted by fans, Brewers manager Pat Murphy simply broke it all down after the game. Athlon Sports’ David Gasper shared his response on X:
“It’s a natural reaction.”
Murphy made it clear that Turang wasn’t thinking politics or strategy, but framed it more like a part of the unpredictable nature of October baseball. Murphy also reminded everyone that the Brewers had chances earlier in the game, praising the team’s overall effort.
