Merced County will now have an independent redistricting commission to determine the districts for the Board of Supervisors.

Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 1441 into law on Monday, which was authored by Asm. Esmeralda Soria (D–Fresno).

The big picture: AB 1441 establishes the Citizens Redistricting Commission in Merced County to redraw the Board of Supervisors districts following the 2030 census and thereafter. • The commission will consist of 11 members, with at least one member from each of the five districts.
