DES MOINES, Iowa -- (Gray Media Iowa State Capitol Bureau) -- Late Tuesday afternoon, Iowa State Auditor Rob Sand confirmed that his office has received a qualifying request that was necessary to conduct a new audit into the Des Moines School District.

Earlier in the day, Sand held a news conference where he pushed back at three Republicans legislators who previously demanded that he investigate the district following the arrest of Ian Roberts, who had served as superintendent for the past two years.

Federal agents arrested Roberts last month. Roberts faces accusations of living in the country illegally, unlawfully possessing weapons as a person without legal status, falsifying his academic records, and lying on employment forms.
